Hey what's going on guys welcome to SEO for beginners today I'm going to show you three easy steps on how to rank your website on the first page of Google, I got to go I got some pizza in the oven but I'll be right back watching this hope it doesn't burn all right guys good news the pizza didn't burn and it was delicious all right so if you guys are new or you've been trying to rank your website for a long time and you've been watching some other videos and these ranking websites in google or the google three-pack has been so hard you can't understand it you can't figure it out I am just going to make it super simple so the first thing that you want to do are you want to go to google and type in your town I'll be working with a client from Chattanooga Tennessee this week so we'll be using that as an example okay so the first thing you want to do are you want to type in the map?
You want to type into google I'm sorry you want to type in google Chattanooga Tennessee and then you want to just click the map and the reason why you want to do that I guess this is a better example here is that this is what Google sees as Chattanooga Tennessee now I've never been there i heard they have the fastest internet in the united states and it's a place I am going to visit this uh winter and possibly move there I'm just thinking about it it's I heard it's a lovely lovely place to live and uh I don't know just kind of thinking about it now right okay but enough about me so this is what Google sees as Chattanooga now you could be in Los Angeles California.
You could be in uh you know where I'm at you could be in Tampa I'm you know I'm actually in uh Saint Petersburg my actual area is Saint Petersburg uh but I say that to say this is that just because you're in Chattanooga Tennessee you may say I want a ranking Saudi daisy I just wanted to say that I wanted to re I want to rank in Saudi daisy it's Chattanooga well you may say it's Chattanooga all you want and it may be or it may not be I don't know anything about Chattanooga but according to this map the way that Google sees it it is not either is whiteside so the The first thing you need to do is you need to be realistic with where you want to rank if you're in Los Angeles you're not going to rank the whole uh the whole city of Los Angeles.
You're going to rank in the outlined area so if it's called the red bank uh Chattanooga or if it's called uh let's see how I want to bring this up a little bit more right there are different areas called east bridge know where you're located that's the first thing know where you're located and realize that outside this area you are not going to be found for local at least for the thing that I'm showing you all right so like I said this is this is very basic so I guess the first part is no, no we know where you are all right guys so the next thing that you want to do what I like to do is I go over to a website called niche.com and I type in the name of the city which is uh Chattanooga I click places to live Chattanooga Tennessee right and I want to know a little bit more about the city.
The main thing that I am looking for is I want to see the population right that is important I want to see what the population is the population is 5 million well then I have to be more particular on the keywords that I'm using if it's under 250 200 000 I could pick whatever keywords I want to pick and rank and rank them for local like a local plumber a local electrician and so on and so forth you know if you're looking at a city like Brooklyn new york you know that has five million people in it well you know you have to get a little you have to get a little more uh specific in the keywords that you're using so if your population in the city that you're trying to rank is under 200 250 000 people uh this lesson is this lesson is for you actually, it's for you even if it's even a bit smaller but you want to pay attention so go to niche.com now the next thing is when I go to https://ranking-tips.blogspot.com/
I want to know a a little bit about the city because it's going to help me later on so once again I could see the map i could see where the the home prices are right so if i was an um if I was a heating and air conditioning place in Chattanooga Tennessee and I needed to get an office right I would probably try to get an office in this area rather than where that where the where the house houses are average 500 000 right here in the most uh south the east part of Chattanooga rather than on the other side where there are 110 000 right so if I'm looking to get an office or get a desk space.
I'll probably want to try to get it around here if you already have an office well then that's that's fine right then I want to know about the schools because later on, I may make some uh well actually not may I will make some geo pages and I'll write I'll write about some of the schools here, I'll do a page on each school about 250 to 300 words and I'll link back to the home page those are called geo pages but you know that's not that important right now right I want to know about the crime rate burglary rate uh and a little bit more so this is a great site it's called https://ranking-tips.blogspot.com/ and once again the main thing that I'm looking for is I am just looking for the population all right guys,
So the next thing you want to do is you want to get two plug-ins real simple you want to get a plug-in called gs location changer I'm located in Florida but I i changed my location to Chattanooga Tennessee so google thinks that I'm searching from Chattanooga Tennessee and then the other one you want is SEO minion and they're both free just download them there are two chrome extensions just go to google type in chrome extension SEO minion and then go to google and type in a gs location changer download the extensions and you're ready to go all right so what I like to do is I just create like a little sheet just something like this right and what I want to do before I create a page.
I want to rank hot water repeat hot water I'm sorry water heater repair I want to rank that keyword so I don't just go ahead and just start writing content for the page there are some basic things that I need to do real simple if you want to do something better than somebody else you need to see what they're doing first right that makes sense so type in the the keyword that you're trying to rank for in this case, it's water heater repair right and I'm not going to click on any of the directories like HomeAdvisor yelp thumbtack Angie's list so on and so forth yelp I said yelp ready right I'm going to find the first local business and the first local business is chatted Chattanooga water heater repair what a coincidence so I am going to click that link and I'm going to take a look at this website.
And I want to see i want to see um how they're structuring their website so it kind of looks like a big image right here and then on the left it has their logo with their uh the keyword in it and the phone number right then they have a couple of links and some text oh look at this they have a video right then they have some of their services okay all right that looks pretty good now one big opportunity that they're missing here are you want to brand these pictures what do I mean by that here's what I would have done if I would have done this website.
I would have put their logo right here in the lower right-hand corner I would have put their name address and phone number because google does read images in the left-hand corner and going across the top I would have put Chattanooga water heater repair right across the top and I would have done that with all these images right so I would have branded each one of those images okay so now I have my sheet here and I want to see what their the title tag is so all I have to do is if it's too hard to right-click and go through the code just put your mouse over the tab look what it says water heater repair in Chattanooga Tennessee Chattanooga water repair company water heater company okay great so that's the title tag I'll type in one of the titles to I'll put in that title tag then I'll go to the second place a person let's see uh okay that's an Angie's List okay what's this okay this looks like a scenic city plumbing all right once again all right I would take the logo here.
I would put the logo their logo I would put it in the right-hand corner in the left-hand corner put their name address phone number and right across the top, I would put scenic city uh I'm sorry I would put uh water heater repair the keyword that I'm trying to rank for all right oh that looks good tankless water heaters right all right let me take that and I am going to keywords right I'll just start writing some keywords all right just to get some ideas that are all I'm doing is getting ideas I'm not bothering nobody not bothering anybody I'm just grabbing some ideas right that looks good I guess that would be an important guess rebates right there's some brands here and i would just make a list and write that down now the other thing i would do is I would copy all these words?
Right and I would put it in see this right here word counter and it's 189 words and then over here is probably about another 50. so off top of my head let's say 250 words so I know that when I am writing the first place competitor the person in the first place has a lot more words on that page but you see to rank alike I always say about mike Tyson right to be the best you got to beat the best right so I got to first find out who the best is so I would take all these words right here boom put them in wordcounter.net right boom right here boom boom boom copy all these words right here I'm gonna say probably probably just 750 words all right so this guy has 750 the other one has 250.
I know I'm coming out of the gate I'm probably going to write a 1500 word article because I want to blow them away but I'm trying to grab some keywords look water heater repair tankless water once again that tankless right propane and gas water heater grab all these keywords and put it on your sheet in your keyword sheet right and just make a whole list of those keywords all right we're doing good so far right we're doing good we're not bothering anybody, we're quiet just quiet people nice okay the other thing.
I would look for now gotta have a good eye for this i have a good eye for this I have a good eye for this this is like notorious in the search engines now two best the best ten the top best best top best like look for these things you see what I mean look for these things and say well okay I bet it I better make a note there and yeah the keywords in the cert in the in the um google search I'm seeing 10 best you know and write that down right we said right and once again I'm gonna go back and I'm gonna check out some other websites so okay so here's uh the spruce all right so here's the spruce right looks like the page are broke oh no came back to life okay here we go all right so I would count the words once again all these images you're being are wasted that you're just putting hands washing in the sink when all you have to do is brand all the images.
I don't know why they're giving Getty images uh credit unless they're free images and they didn't buy them so they're giving them credit which is cool that's all right people get the idea all right but look to see how the page is structured so I was doing this is important also on your page, if you're writing a page about water heaters do like tips like the 10 uh 10 tips to keep your water heater for you know for a lifetime right you could find this on the web and just have it rewritten 10 tips google loves that and put that on your website but you'd only know that if you went to other sites and checked it out now this is off topic uh but I it just caught my eye so I'm gonna just let you guys know something there's nothing wrong with this I know everybody's gonna go crazy and go uh his keyword stuff doing his keyword stuff and yeah with keywords to this guy's keyword stuff and he is and he's and he's doing it the wrong way all he did was take his google my business and he keyword-stuffed it Google somebody's going to complain one the day somebody's going to complain google's going to take a look at it and the first thing google's going to do is they're going to look around the web does his yelp page say this or does it just say Chattanooga water heater repair company or does it have all this other stuff? tankless gas electric then they're going to go to his Facebook page then they're going to go to his youtube channel.
And they're going to ask and they're going to see what's the name they're going to go to his website right and they want to see if this is the name of your business it's perfectly okay to put it but you can't just put it on your google my business and everywhere else it just says this you see what I mean so let me say that another way let me say that another way so just wait if this is okay if this is the name of your business but make sure that when you get you're doing business as that's the name of your business that your business cards say this whole thing that your business cards don't just say this because google is going to ask you for you know they're gonna when you write an appeal they're gonna say okay show us you know your paperwork your sign on your office should say this you sign on your office can't just say this your website that should be the name of your business.
Now let's go to the website for a second I forgot even what it looks like right so here's what I mean it's just Chattanooga water heater company right it's just this the name of his website should be that I hope that makes sense it's just uh google my business little little thing that's been coming up lately, a lot of people have been getting there google my business suspended and um look if you have 300 citations that have this name if you have data aggregators social accounts if you have your youtube channel if you're if this is your brand Google can't say it's not and if google takes it down after looking throughout the web and seeing that that's your brand but still decides to take it out they're going to ask you for your business license.
If your business license says this also as well as your sign and your business cards and your t-shirts that's your brand you'll get it back I'm sorry I went off on the side but a lot of people asked me the question I should have made another video on it but I saw it and I went crazy all right so like I said to create a page you first have to take 10 or 15 minutes to see what other people are doing right everybody else had like you know how many words on the page okay so I know I'm going about I'm going for about 1500 I'm going to about 1500 words um how many images uh off the top of my head the the the uh the top guy had had 10 I'll put 15 images on my page right here's another thing here's oh okay so a video yeah one of the people had a video so I'll put up with two videos right.
I'll put two videos on my page here's another thing here's there's a the little sneaky trick this isn't right but okay google loves that you were voted top 10 in Chattanooga Tennessee right I don't care if your two next door neighbors voted for you right but if they vote you put it on your website put it on your website because google loves that Google loves that so Wilson Wilson and graham were two correction officers I worked within uh in new york city department of correction I retired on 20 2015. I did 20 years and I'll do stuff like that I'll do uh uh they're voted voted voted top 10 water heater uh repair shops by Wilson Wilson and graham or something like that you know so you know puts it puts that stuff even if it's small put stuff like that on your website google loves it listen here's the bottom line and I know some people are sitting there saying some people are laughing right saying this guy's nuts and then some people are sitting there going oh that's not ethical look look look look I don't know any sport that I've ever played in my life where I didn't try to win you got to try to you have to cheat a little bit whether it's baseball using a little extra pine.
Top you're pitching you can put thrown a spitball or uh you know in hockey you know using a stick that's a curved a little bit too much right listen I'm not saying I'm not saying um uh go crazy right like like like what this guy did right he's cheating a little bit i respect him he's cheating a little bit but he's going crazy he put his stuff right out there for you I mean he exposed himself and if somebody's gonna if somebody's gonna report him unfortunately, he's gonna get to take it down I hope nobody does and I hope nobody that's watching because that's bad calling man you do it to somebody, somebody's gonna do it to you one day so I don't mess around with that I don't i don't I don't tell on people? right so don't tell on this guy but uh somebody his competitor's gonna tell but everybody's cheating everybody's cheating you have to do something right so find your two neighbors your two best friends and let them vote on you and put that on your website all right get your keywords so on and so forth and sprinkle them on your website okay now the next thing you want to do the next thing you want to do and this are easy right guys.
I mean I said it's for beginners in the beginning of the video I said it's three steps but all right i guess it's a little more I i started talking about other things had something else in mind but anybody could do this I'm not showing you anything that that that nobody could do and in fact if you're watching this video and you have a web developer that's working with you just show them this video says hey look I want to work start ranking just watch this guy's video you know watch this guy's video and just do what he says and you'll rank it okay most of google's ranking system has to do with on-page optimization meaning what you put on your page if your page says you sell red shoes well you better show uh that you sell red shoes and you better you better tell the person searching better than your competition right once you uh get indexed by google and you appear in the search well now you want to start throwing links in it you start doing backlinking that's a little more advanced we'll talk about that some other time I'm just trying to help you I'm just trying to listen as I said in the beginning.
I'm not doing anything I'm you know I'm just a quiet guy I'm not trying to hurt anybody right neither are you just we're just trying to build a page here right very nice we're nice people all right so um the next thing you want to do is you want to use let's stay on this guy's website you want to use this uh program called this the extension I'm sorry it's not a program an extension called SEO minion here's how you use it you just click it see where it says on-page SEO just click that and it lets you know what h1 h2 show all headings this is the most important uh thing on a website is your h1 h2s h3s h4 tags so you want to see what the the top person is using his h1 tag is a water heater repair in Chattanooga Tennessee now I'm not a developer but I assume that's his h1 it's the same thing right there right ask us about 18 months promo okay Chattanooga Chattanooga water heater so on and so forth now you may say well I don't know enough about just follow it finds where it says dedicated right your website developer will know about that my team knows all about this but this is the most important in the ranking then you get your keywords and you sprinkle them in here remember you got your keywords before you write you write an article .
You'll have it written and you'll you'll uh you'll sprinkle your keywords in here and then and then what you are going to do after this once your page is done I shouldn't have said that I forget me forget that scratch that let me just show you let me show you the difference so that's somebody ranking him first let's take somebody ranking in six pit please okay uh holt plumbing all right so hold plumbing look at his page on-page optimization right so you don't want to do what they're doing you notice they don't have a lot of h1s and it only goes to h3 you notice the other one had a bunch of h2s you see so if I was hold plumbing if i was doing SEO for whole plumbing right away what I would do is I would go to the first one and I see what the first person is doing I would just see what the first person is doing which is right here boom and then we go to SEO minion and we and we see his on page show all headings notice that notice the difference right so you want to do the same thing just copy success it's just real simple to be the best you have to beat the best remember that in SEO.
It's not just about writing the best article about what does that mean right the best article I can't tell you how many thousands of dollars I've wasted in my SEO career trying to pay people to write the best that would that was my instruction just write the best just write for google has away of laying it out and if you don't know just see what other people are ranking for before you write your article and stop worrying about what color your websites are and if it's red and if it's too red and it's too blue it doesn't matter it doesn't matter get the right content on there and um get the right kind that's the most important thing get the right content on there and get found for your specific keywords right that's what you want to do and then if you're not ranking or you're not ranking as high after all that then you write an article pages what do I mean by article pages right see where it says over here,
People also ask for you write an article on the water heater repair parts an electric water heater repair and water heater repair near me or no gas or hot water and you write a 250-word article you just link back to the home page you don't need those links on your home the page you just write an article you index them and then you link them back to your home page right you want to learn more about hot water repair click here and it goes back to your home page so what you're doing are you're strengthening up uh you're strengthening up that keyword the page I said home page before I'm sorry you're strengthening up the keyword page the page you're trying to rank whatever the page you're trying to rank if it's not ranking right take a look at it through looking at your competitors if you've done everything you pulled all the hair out of your head write article pages in the people also searched for take those subjects to write articles and link back to your keyword page you're trying to rank I guarantee it's going to boost it right all right so that was good those were good tips right we're not trying to bother anybody those were good tips.
